Check-in basics

To check in, bring a photo ID that matches the name on the booking, a payment card for the hotel, and your confirmation email.

What to bring

  • Photo ID. The hotel checks ID against the lead guest name on the reservation. At checkout we ask that names match each guest's ID, so the lead guest should be the one checking in.
  • A credit or debit card. Most hotels ask for a card at check-in to cover incidentals or a security deposit. This is the hotel's policy, and the hotel sets the amount.
  • Your confirmation. The confirmation email shows the hotel confirmation number, the reservation name and your room type. You can also find these on the trip in My Trips.

Check-in and check-out times

The hotel sets its own check-in and check-out times. Your confirmation email lists your check-in and check-out dates with the hotel's times. My Trips shows the same dates on your trip.

If you plan to arrive late at night, call the hotel ahead so it holds the room. The hotel's phone number and email are at the top of your trip in My Trips and in your confirmation email.

Hotel rules

Before you go, open the hotel's page on our site and read Hotel Remarks and Hotel Policies, when the hotel provides them. Hotels list rules there such as child and extra bed policies.

If you are unsure about a rule, such as a minimum check-in age or a pet policy, ask the hotel directly.

Special requests

Checkout does not have a special requests field. If you would like early check-in or a particular bed setup, contact the hotel. The hotel tries to help when it can, but requests depend on availability and are not guaranteed. Only what your booking lists is confirmed.

If early check-in or late checkout appears on your rate, it is part of what you booked. See Parking, breakfast and what your rate includes.

If something goes wrong

If the hotel can't find your reservation or there's a problem when you arrive, call us at (800) 601-4678. We answer 24/7. See The hotel can't find my reservation.
