My payment was declined
A declined payment usually means your card issuer said no, or a card detail did not match what your bank has on file. You see a Booking failed message, and your booking is not made.
What to check
- Card details. Check the card number, expiration date and security code. If the card has expired or you mistyped it, choose Edit on the saved card, or add the card again.
- Billing address and ZIP code. Use the address your card statement goes to. The ZIP or postal code must match too. Keep the city out of Street Address 1 and in the City field.
- Available balance or credit limit. The whole stay is charged when you book, so the card needs room for the full total.
- Your bank's fraud checks. Banks sometimes block a travel charge or a charge from a merchant they don't recognize.
You can update the name and billing address on a saved card under Payment Methods, with Edit details.
When to call your card issuer
If the message says your card issuer declined the transaction, call the number on the back of your card. Ask them to approve the charge, then try again. Only your bank can tell you the exact reason.
Call your issuer too if your details are all correct and the payment still fails. You can also try a different card.
Too many attempts
After several failed or repeated payments in a short time, we pause new payments on your account for a while to protect it. Adding a new card is paused too. You see the message We need to confirm this booking with you.
If this happens, don't keep trying. Contact us, and our team can review it and finish your booking for you.
